Nov 2 - Gotcha Day Approaches

We just found out our precourt hearing will be Friday. Then on Monday 7 November we will have our adoption hearing and take Zarina home the following day. That seems so close and yet so far away. We just can't wait.

Zarina can almost stand without help - we are sure she will be walking before we leave Kazakhstan. This is good because, well she'll be walking!!! However the downside is that we will have to work harder to chase after her and babyproof the apartment even more than we have done already.

She is so happy!!! This smile just energizes you.

We have been blessed with exceptional weather for the past few days - it has been very sunny and moderately cold (30-45 degrees F). Igor our intrepid driver has been driving us everywhere we need to go for shopping and sight seeing. He knows how to get to anything in the city and gets us there safely and swiftly. His father Filipych is the driver for the Burnetts and has taken quite a shine to Alex.

This is Filipych, Igor's father.
Granny, ask Ed if he has any relatives here! Filipych is a ringer for Poppy!

I am learning a bit of Russian and can do shopping and count to 10. Fortunately Alex has the best Russian vocabulary and pronounciation of all of us. He can converse with Igor despite the fact the Igor's English is only slightly better than my Russian.

Mary's doing a bit of cooking, but we eat out whenever we can. MJs (McJohns) is at the Atrium and has excellent chicken and lamb sandwiches - try the kabobs!!. The borscht is great too. At the Kamelot, try the Royal Schitzel, the Summer Salad, or the Robin Bobin. The menu is in English, but all you'll get is cryptic names. Just pick something. At the Almaty Restaurant, well just try the Besbarmak. For beer - get the Baltica #3.

This is my breakfast. It's like corn flakes, but with apples, raspberries, and cherries added. The mil is 1%, but comoes in these tiny cartons. It's superpasteurized so it stays fresh for months until opened. The yogurt is also great - much thicker and richer than in the US.

Dinner in the Almaty restaurant!

This is the Kamelot - it's an Arthurian, hunter theme with swords, bear skins, stuffed falcons, armor, etc. - if you come to Uralsk, you must eat here.
